Cold refers to the condition of having low temperature. The color blue is associated with cold. Many things are also associated with cold, for instance ice. absolute zero is the coldest temperature that can be reached which is 0 K on the Kelvin scale, which is a thermodynamic temperature scale, and −273.15° on the Celsius scale. Absolute zero is also precisely equivalent to 0 °R on the Rankine scale (also a thermodynamic temperature scale), and −459.67 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale. The boomerang nebula is the coldest known place in the universe with a temperature that is measured at 1 K (kelvin) (−272.15 °C/−457.87 °F). The coldest continent on Earth is Antarctica. The coldest place on Earth is the Antarctic Plateau, an area of Antarctica around the South Pole that has an altitude of around 3000 meters. Mercury, despite being close to the Sun, is actually cold during its night, with a temperature of about -274 F or -170 C. Mercury is cold during its night because it has no atmosphere to trap in heat from the Sun.

  • Mars has a temperature of about -180 °C (-292 F).
  • Jupiter with a temperature of -166 °C at the cloud tops.
  • Saturn with a temperature of -180 °C (-292 F) at cloud tops.
  • Uranus with a temperature of -218 °C (-360 F) at cloud tops.
